Tong dies have come a long way since tongs became commonplace in the oilfields. Eckel has been at the forefront of this developing technology with the development of larger wrap-around type dies for many of its tong models. We offer coarse tooth design and fine tooth design depending on the application.

NOTE: We still offer our contour type dies for tubing sizes on many of our tongs which use pivot heads that require them. Also for 4″ OD and above the regular size dies are still used extensively and we do still offer them. In addition to our contour dies, we provide A and S series wrap-around dies for our 13-3/8 and 20″ standard casing tongs, providing a larger gripping area and reducing pipe damage.

CT 3000 Computerized Torque Control System The CT 3000LT features high resolution graphics with two 16 bit processors and a choice or four makeup programs. All PC hardware options are available in a unit that can be built to customer hardware specifications. Several “add-on” modules such as internal pressure testing, and accessories for hazardous area operations are available. Software is “User Friendly” allowing shortened training for field technicians.

CT 4500 Computerized Torque Control System The CT 4500 Computerized Torque Control System is set up, programmed and operated by the tong or bucking unit technician and mounts directly on the tong and does not require an operator. The unit features real-time graphics and can generate a hard copy report either while running or after job completion. Like all of our products, this unit was designed, programmed and manufactured in house. The CT 4500 model features a tong mounted graphic system that requires no additional”on-site” personnel, as the CT4500 can be operated by the tong operator. Solid state technology and a 16 bit processor generates “real-time” graphics, LCD display of torque, and produces a hard copy report.

The Eckel TONGBOSS® automated tong positioning system maneuvers any size of Eckel hydraulic power tongs precisely around the tubular during running and pulling operations. One operator controls the tong positioning and tong functions hydraulically from the rig floor. The TONGBOSS® is unique to all tong positioning systems on the market today in that it requires no magnetism, bolting, welding, or rig floor tracks. In developing the TONGBOSS® , Eckel set some simple design goals. These goals were to improve safety, operational costs, cycle time, and to universally install on any rig.

The big, capable Model 36 UHT easily produces 100,000 ft-lb of torque for makeup or break-out operations involving casing in sizes 16 inches through 36 inches OD. Weighing approximately 13,000 pounds, this casing tong is 81 inches wide and 135 inches in length. A two-speed motor delivers 16 RPM in high, 3-1/2 RPM in low range, both at 70 GPM.

The Eckel Model 36 Hydra-Shift features a two-speed motor with two-speed gear train, producing 75,000 ft-lb of torque in low-low, at 2,500 psi. Weighing 9,000 pounds, this tong easily handles ultra-heavy casing strings from 16 inches to 36 inches OD.
